Episode 2: Two Sides to Every Story

It has been said that history is written by the victors. Even though it is a cliche, it is true. Whoever wins a war generally controls the narrative of what happened during the war. However, this does not mean that the perspective from the loosing side is not as important when discussing history. Today, on the anniversary of the largest amphibious assault in history, lets look at the invasion of Normandy from the German perspective.

When we visited Normandy in March I was surprised to learn just how many of the soldiers at Normandy were French men who were forced to guard the shore for the German Army in order to spare their own lives. That was a perspective I had not heard before. Imagine how confusing it must have been to figure out who would help you and who would hurt you in the chaos of the invasion. Not even the uniform worn could predict outcomes!
